MCO's Brian Fahey on the Future of AI in FinTech with The Irish Times

Written by MCO Marketing | Jun 18, 2026, 1:00:00 PM

In the Irish Times FinTech Focus Special Report,  Brian Fahey, CEO of MCO, discussed how AI is changing risk assessment, fraud detection and financial crime compliance. AI can help financial institutions analyze larger and more diverse datasets in real time, identify behavioral patterns and anomalies and move from static review cycles toward continuous, lifecycle-based monitoring.

How Is AI Shaping the Future of FinTech and Compliance?

Fahey explained that AI can identify suspicious activity across transactions, communications, devices and behaviors faster than manual review. It can also help compliance teams accelerate investigations, respond to evolving fraud tactics and focus fewer human hours on low-value tasks while directing more attention to genuine areas of risk.

He emphasized that AI does not change accountability. Firms remain responsible for every decision and outcome when AI outputs influence compliance activity. Financial institutions must be able to explain how systems are supervised, audited and challenged, who reviewed the outputs and what controls were in place. Fahey said the firms best positioned for long-term success will embed AI responsibly into infrastructure and core controls rather than treat it as a separate tool.
