“He’s making a list, checking it twice. . .”

Even if you don’t believe in Santa, we at MCO think it is a great time of year to recognize fellow professionals for their outstanding contributions to the field of compliance and risk in 2017.

Yesterday, we looked at some of the biggest fines of the year, or  'The Naughty List'. Today we look at some of the more positive events of the year, 'The Nice List'.

The Nice List

  1. The SEC’s whistleblower program. A repeat from the 2016 Nice list, actionable information from whistleblowers under the SEC’s program has led to more than $1 billion in financial remedies ordered against wrongdoers.
  2. Roy Snell and Gerry Zach. Roy Snell makes the Nice List for his outstanding work during his tenure at the SCCE. SCCE’s incoming CEO, Gerry Zach. Zach brings to the SCCE more than 30 years of experience in the prevention, detection, investigation and remediation of fraud, corruption, and noncompliance.
  3. Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein. Rosenstein makes this list for his inspiring speech at ACI’s 34th International Conference on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The buzz-generating remarks included an announcement of revisions to the FCPA Corporate Enforcement Policy.
  4. The DOJ and their international partners, federal prosecutors in the DOJ’s Criminal Division’s Fraud Section, Assistant U.S. Attorneys and law enforcement partners. The Fraud Section’s FCPA Unit of the DOJ has secured criminal resolutions in 17 FCPA-related corporate cases since 2016, resulting in penalties and forfeiture to the Department of more than $1.6 billion.
  5. Dr. J. Michael Collins. Dr. Collins received the inaugural Ketchum Prize for outstanding service and research to advance investor protection and financial capability in the U.S. at the Board of Directors triannual board meeting for the FINRA Investor Education Foundation (FINRA Foundation).
  6. FINRA and the SCCE. Another repeat from 2016, FINRA and SCCE must be included on the Nice List for their work to protect investors and market integrity.
  7. Richard Bistrong, CEO of Front-Line Anti-Bribery and the other winners of the Top Minds 2017 Award from Compliance Week. Introduced in 2016, the Top Minds Award recognizes the year’s best and brightest thought leaders in the fields of governance, risk, compliance, and ethics. We salute you.
  8. Bojan Bajić and Višnja Marilović. Bajić and  Marilović of Net Consulting Ltd both gave powerful speeches when accepting the International Award at SCCE’s CEI. The two received a standing ovation for their courage and work for protection of whistleblowers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  9. Risk and Compliance Professionals. Finally, the risk and compliance professionals in the trenches everyday make our 2017 Nice List for working to improve standards and ethics across the business world.

Thanks for all you do. Happy Holidays from MCO!
